Remote Work From Montenegro
Who the scheme is for
The permit targets foreigners who work remotely for a foreign employer or run an online business registered outside Montenegro. You may not work for Montenegrin clients on this permit. Income must be stable and documented, typically at least around €1,350 per month, and health insurance must cover your stay.
The tax position
Income earned from foreign employers and clients is exempt from Montenegrin personal income tax under the digital nomad scheme. You remain responsible for tax obligations in your home country, and we can check whether a double taxation treaty applies to your case.
Nomad permit or own company?
The nomad permit is faster and cheaper if you only want to live in Montenegro while working abroad. If you plan to invoice local clients, employ staff or build a path to permanent residence with a business, registering a d.o.o. is the stronger route, and it can be done later without leaving the country.
Living costs and locations
Podgorica offers the best infrastructure and lowest rents; Budva, Tivat and Kotor attract remote workers for the coast. Fibre internet is widely available. Our budget estimator on the packages page gives a realistic monthly figure for rent, insurance and daily life.
Digital Nomad Permit Questions
Digital Nomad Permit Questions
How much income do I need to show?
Stable remote income of roughly €1,350 per month or more, documented with contracts and bank statements. We confirm the exact threshold for your case during the free eligibility check.
Is my foreign income taxed in Montenegro?
No. Foreign-sourced income under the digital nomad scheme is exempt from Montenegrin personal income tax.
Can I bring my family?
Yes. Family members apply through family reunification once your permit is issued.
Does the nomad permit count toward permanent residence?
Time on a digital nomad permit is treated differently from company-based residence. If permanent residence is your goal, we advise switching to a company-based permit in time.
What does the service cost?
Quoted after the eligibility check, in writing and all-inclusive, like every service we offer.
